Kisangani, June 12th, 2021 (CPA).- The student community of the University of Kisangani has been building scientific realities on how the volcanological observatory of Goma (OVG) was able to manage the situation of the last eruption of the volcano of Nyiragongo, in the province of North Kivu.
The head of works Didier Namogu, who chaired the scientific conference organized for this purpose by the geology department of the science faculty of this university on the theme: « the last eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano on May 22nd, 2021: reality and impacts ”, defined the objectives of these meetings initiated with the aim of informing students and the scientific community as well as the population on the different realities of this geological structure.
Didier Namogu, also researcher at the OVG, recalled that this lava flow is the third in the series in the DRC after those recorded in 1977 and 2002.
For his part, assistant Dimitri Elukesu from the geology department explained to scientific opinion the genesis of the volcanic phenomenon and the various impacts on the environment. ACP/
