Covid-19: a very close virus found in bats in China

Kinshasa June 19th, 2021 (CPA).– A variant very similar, from a genetic point of view, to the coronavirus (Sars-Cov-2) responsible for the Covid-19 pandemic has been identified in China, in bats , reveals a study by Chinese researchers which reached the CPA on Friday.

According to the source, the scientists took oral samples of saliva, urine and feces between May 2019 and November 2020, in Yunnan province, southwest China. They then analyzed the samples and the results of the study appeared recently in the science magazine « Cell » and then aired on the American television channel « Cable News Network ». This result confirms the theory proving that these winged mammals are the hosts of many varieties of coronavirus, which can potentially be transmitted frequently to humans.

For the team of scientists, with the related SARS-CoV-2 virus collected in Thailand in June 2020, these results clearly demonstrate that viruses closely related to SARS-CoV-2 continue to circulate in bat populations, and could appear in certain regions with a relatively high frequency ”. ACP/
