Kinshasa, August 7th, 2021 (CPA).- Deaths due to Covid-19 have reached a new record in Africa with more than 172,000 people dead, an increase of 4% globally, indicates a statement from the World Organization of Health (WHO) reached the CPA on Friday. According to the source, only 1.7% of Africa’s population, or 24 million people, are fully vaccinated. WHO reveals that the latest data shows that Africa is still facing the peak of a third wave of Covid-19 and calls on the population not to let their guard down because the Delta variant of Covid-19, which is highly transmissible, has been discovered in 29 African countries, while the Alpha variant is present in 39 countries and the Beta variant in 35 countries. WHO stresses that as Covid-19 cases increase, vaccine deliveries must also increase. The countries that have recorded more deaths in Africa remain South Africa and Tunisia, or 55% of deaths reported in Africa, it is said. ACP/
