CAN 2021: DRC consoles itself with a victory against Gambia (1-0)

Kinshasa, March 30th, 2021 (CPA) – DRC consoled itself with a victory against Gambia (1-0), on Monday at the Martyrs of Pentecost stadium, in Kinshasa, in a match of the 6th and last day of qualifiers, group D, of the 33rd African Cup of Nations (CAN) football.

The Leopards of DRC still showed envy during this meeting without affecting the qualification for the final phase of CAN which Cameroon will host in January 2021. Better organized than the Gambian Scorpions, already qualified for the phase final, the Congolese beasts found the net thanks to a penalty converted by Francis Kazadi Kasengu (45th) following an irregular charge on Ben Malangu in the penalty area.

On resumption, the Scorpions show a certain desire to catch up but are thwarted by the defensive network commanded by Chancel Mbemba Mangulu. The foals of Nsengi Biembe who have an ancestry over their opponents, failed to double the bet on a shot from Djuma Shabani (67th) deflected for a corner by the Gambian goalkeeper.

Both teams will be satisfied with this score until the last whistle. DRC has 9 points against 10 for Gambia.

In Luanda, Angola saved the honor by beating Gabon 2-0. He finished the qualifiers behind DRC with 4 points, far from Gabon 10 points. In this group, Gabon and Gambia finish first with 10 points each and will play in the final tournament next year in Cameroon.ACP/
