Minister Serge Nkonde feels the realities of the Martyrs Stadium before starting the rehabilitation work

Kinshasa, May 22nd, 2021 (CPA) .- The Minister of Sports and Leisure, Serge Nkonde Chembo, has fingered the realities of the Martyrs of Pentecost stadium, not included in the list of infrastructures to host international matches by the Confederation African Football Association (CAF), before starting the rehabilitation work at short notice.

The new Congolese sports boss, accompanied on Thursday by his ministry’s technical team, toured the sports complex, compartment by compartment, under the leadership of Polydor Bongulu, interim manager. Serge Nkonde started his inspection visit with the central circle where the synthetic turf, more than 5 years old, will have to be replaced, as it no longer allows footballers to develop a good game.

He then went to the changing rooms and sanitary facilities, which require serious and substantial work for the good image of this temple of Congolese football. Serge Nkonde also visited the smart room of the stadium where the surveillance cameras are located, which work in close collaboration with the security office, where he noted the enormous difficulties experienced by this service, which are consecutive to the ‘insufficient cameras, which does not cover the entire stadium when there is an event.

According to technical explanations from ministry experts, at least 286 cameras are needed to ensure surveillance of the entire Pentecostal Martyrs Stadium, while at the moment it only has 56.

Serge Nkonde also went to the Sports Medicine Center, where active and non-active athletes take first aid, before ending his visit to the General Secretariat for Sports and Leisure. This visit will allow the number one of the Congolese sport to constitute a file to be submitted to the government in order to restart the rehabilitation works. ACP/
