Kinshasa, April 16th, 2026 (CPA).– A strike truce secured from city government employees in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has been announced in a statement from the Provincial Ministry in charge of Public Service consulted on Thursday by CPA. “Following discussions, the minister has secured a strike truce, granted until Tuesday, April 21st, to allow the provincial executive to thoroughly examine the demands made by the inter-union group,” it is read. This truce, the source has added, has been secured from the delegation of the inter-union coalition of Kinshasa urban administration employees as part of the consultation mechanism established between the provincial executive and the union representatives, with a view to defusing the strike action announced by the civil servants.
According to the document, the inter-union coalition of the urban administration demanded approximately seven (7) months of back pay during a sit-in held on Monday, February 23rd, in front of Kinshasa City Hall. “Public servants are clearly expressing their position: the settlement of approximately seven months’ worth of arrears must be a priority, alongside the acceleration of regular payment of current salaries,” has declared David-Delord Luyeye, president of the urban administration’s inter-union coalition.
During the same sit-in, the press release has noted, the strikers had expressed demands regarding the remuneration of city staff, the convening of a consultation and reconciliation framework, as well as the payment of arrears for the year 2025.
