Accra and Amsterdam cooperate in the fight against drug trafficking

Kinshasa, August 16th, 2026 (CPA).- Ghana and the Netherlands have agreed, in a special letter of intent, to strengthen their cooperation in the fight against illicit drug trafficking and criminal markets, international media have informed on Sunday.

“A genuine and reliable international collaboration should help to dismantle illicit markets and transnational criminal networks,” has declared Ibrahima Sory II Tounkara, Ghana’s Minister in charge of Justice. According to sources, this initiative forms part of the ‘Accra Call to Action’ project, with both countries expressing their ambition to play a leading role at international level in the fight against drug trafficking. For the Ghanaian authorities, this phenomenon poses a major threat to young people and public health, whilst undermining the rule of law and infringing on human rights.

Accra and The Hague intend, in particular, to strengthen international cooperation to combat the networks supplying their markets with cocaine, synthetic drugs and proceeds from criminal activities. Furthermore, the Ghanaian Minister in charge of Justice has welcomed the visit by his Dutch counterpart, describing it as “memorable”, and reaffirmed Accra’s commitment to continue this partnership in the fight against drug trafficking.
