Kinshasa, November 18th, 2025 (CPA).- The importance duty to remember the victims of the genocide perpetrated in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been highlighted by the head of a public institution during the Senate President’s visit to the Genocost memorial in Kinshasa, CPA has learned from administrative sources. ‘We have been honoured to welcome the President of the Senate to the Genocost memorial. This solemn and moving visit pays tribute to the victims of the genocide perpetrated on Congolese soil and reminds us of the importance of the duty to remember in the reconstitution of the facts,’ has written Emmanuella Zandi, deputy general director (DGA) of Fonarev, on her X account. For her, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, President of the Senate, who occupies a special place in this history, then Prime Minister, has played a key role in the creation of the National Fund for the Reparation of Victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence and Victims of Crimes against the Peace and Security of Humanity (Fonarev).

‘He has thus laid the foundations for a national commitment to justice, reparation and dignity for victims,’ she has insisted. The Deputy General Director Zandi has further argued that the Senate President’s gesture today at the Genocost memorial has reaffirmed this conviction, that lasting peace requires recognition of suffering and the restoration of human dignity. The Genocide Memorial is a monument erected in Kinshasa to commemorate the victims of violence in DRC, in order to highlight war crimes, crimes against humanity and even genocide. The memorial houses 93 headstones and an eternal flame.
