COP 30-Brazil: for the immediate establishment of an expanded inter-ministerial preparatory commission (Minister in charge of the Environment)

Kinshasa, August 24th, 2025 (CPA).- The establishment of  a preparatory commission for the participation of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the 30th edition of COP-30 in Brazil has been suggested to the Council of Ministers by the minister responsible, according to the Government Report, consulted on Saturday by CPA.

« In the run-up to the 30th International Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Minister in charge of the Environment and Sustainable Development has informed the Council that this international conference will be held in Belem, Brazil, this coming November 10th to 21st. To this end, she proposes the immediate establishment of an expanded inter-ministerial preparatory commission, » it is read. ‘This commission, which will be extended to civil society and the private sector, should aim, in particular, to draw up the national roadmap for COP 30, identify the specific issues for our country, prepare our negotiating positions on the various items on the agenda and plan the announcements that DRC could make during the conference,’ the source has maintained. Among the two notes presented by the Minister in charge of Environment, Sustainable Development and New Climate Economy is DRC’s participation in the second African Climate Week, scheduled for September 5th to 10th. On this subject, the minister in charge has reminded us that the African Climate Week is a major continental event under the auspices of the African Union (AU).

This forum will bring together heads of State, ministers, experts and non-state actors to discuss Africa’s priorities in the face of climate change. Ahead of this special session of the African Ministerial Conference, the aim will be to forge a common African position. As at COP 29, held in November 2024 in Baku, in Azerbaijan, DRC will be sure to promote its ecological assets as a country offering solutions to the world’s climate change problems.  CPA/
