Kinshasa, August 6th, 2026 (CPA).- The Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Cassation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has cancelled, on Thursday, a press conference of the singer Blaise Bula scheduled to take place in Kinshasa to address the copyright situation in the country, according to a letter.
“In my letter No. 3122/D.023/26469/PGCCAS/VON/2026 dated August 5th, 2026, I have requested to the General Director (DG) of the Cultural and Artistic Centre for Central African Countries (CCAPAC) not to welcome you onto the premises of the said centre to hold a press briefing, in light of the court rulings already handed down in the dispute between you and the Board of Directors chaired by Mr N’Yoka Longo M’Vula Joseph Roger”, it is read in this letter from Firmin Mvonde, Attorney General at the Court of Cassation, addressed to the singer Blaise Bula. In this document, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested that the General Director of the CCAPAC revoke the authorisation granted for the booking of the hall intended to host the event organised by one of the leading figures of the ‘Wenge Musica’ group. According to this letter, the measure taken by the Public Prosecutor’s Office forms part of the enforcement of two orders issued by the President of the High Court of First Instance of Kinshasa-Kalamu, as well as judgments No. 018/2026 of February 4th, 2026, and No. 039/ 2026 of May 15th, 2026, handed down by the Kinshasa/Gombe Court of Appeal under case number RAA 003. According to the information gathered, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has intervened following a letter from the General Direction of the Congolese Society for Copyright and Related Rights (Socoda COOP-CA). This letter has requested the enforcement of the court decisions handed down in this case. At the CCAPAC, officials have stated that they were complying with the instructions of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, specifying that the room initially reserved had not been made available to the organisers of this press conference.
