Deployment of Congolese soldiers to regulate road traffic in Kinshasa

Kinshasa, September 29th, 2025 (CPA). The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), in support of the Traffic Police (PCR), were deployed on Monday to regulate traffic in the capital Kinshasa, the CPA reported.

“We dare to believe that together, they will be able to ensure smooth traffic flow and put an end to the traffic jams that plague Kinshasa,” said Bienvenue Kakule, provincial president of the Congo Drivers’ Association (ACCO). Mr. Kakule took the opportunity to call on the authorities to deploy soldiers in problem areas to ease traffic congestion in the Congolese capital. “We, the Congo Drivers’ Association, welcome the presence of the Republican Guard for their participation in maintaining traffic discipline in Kinshasa,” he added.

This joint operation by the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Congolese National Police (FARDC-PNC) was decided during the Council of Ministers meeting on September 19, on the instructions of the Head of State, Félix Tshisekedi. Through this operation, the government aims to restore traffic flow in Kinshasa while combating anti-social behavior. Traffic jams in Kinshasa are the result of a lack of road infrastructure adapted to rapid population growth, high vehicle density, and failure to comply with traffic regulations.
