Kinshasa, July 13th, 2025 (CPA).- 185,037 victims of conflict-related violence have been identified by a public compensation fund in three provinces of the Kasai region, in the centre of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to its account X consulted on Saturday by CPA.
‘The current statistics for the identification of victims in three provinces of the Kasai region are as follows: Kasai-Central: 81,789 victims; Kasai-Oriental: 40,136 victims; and Kasai: 63,112 victims. In total, we have identified 185,037 victims to date,’ it is read. According to the same source, each figure represents a story, pain and dignity, adding that identification is continuing so that justice and reparation can become a reality for all. Furthermore, the source has reported that the identification of victims in the Kasai region, which has been launched on May 30th, 2025, is part of the mission of the National Fund for the Reparation of Victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence and Victims of Crimes against Peace and Security (Fonarev), before going on to say that this process, which is still on-going, aims to document the suffering endured and to ensure that victims are effectively taken into account with a view to future reparations.
It should be noted that the mission of the National Fund for the Reparation of Victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence and Crimes against Peace and Security of Humanity is to recognise and restore the intrinsic value of each victim of conflict-related sexual violence in DRC and, more broadly, victims of crimes against peace and security of humanity.
