Kinshasa, May 10th, 2026 (CPA). – The end of free electricity supply in the town of Bulungu, in Kwilu province, in the west of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been announced on Saturday during a morning discussion organised by the National Agency for Energy Services in Rural and Peri-urban Areas (ANSER), CPA has noticed. “(…) electricity is not free; it needs to be paid for. The people of Bulungu have benefited from six months of free electricity supply during the trial period. It is therefore important that everyone is aware of this,” has declared Erick Kamiondo, ANSER’s project planning and implementation monitoring officer in the west of DRC. “May the entire population remain calm and be patient, particularly those residents who do not yet have access to electricity for two reasons, namely: works are still on-going and some households are not included among the 1,000 households located within a 500-metre radius of the power station covered by this first phase of electrification,” he has added. For his part, Mr Emile Sumaili, National Deputy, has reminded that « electricity is a paid service; the time has come for the subscribers to pay the charges related to their consumption as normal. This contribution is essential to ensure the maintenance of the facilities, the stability of the electricity supply and the sustainability of the project for the benefit of the entire community ». Mr Donatien Bitini, national deputy, has for his part, indicated that following this activity, a report will be submitted to the National Assembly to highlight certain difficulties faced by ANSER in powering the plant to supply all households in the town of Bulungu. This activity is part of the parliamentary oversight mission initiated by members of the National Assembly’s Land Use Planning Committee, with the aim of monitoring the electrification works in the town of Bulungu carried out by the National Agency for Energy Services in Rural and Peri-urban Areas (ANSER). The parliamentary delegation comprises, in particular, national deputies Emile Sumaili, elected representative for Shabunda, Nasa Eyumu and Donatien Bitini, both elected representatives for Bulungu.
