DRC–China Media Forum: “media cooperation roadmap” expected

Kinshasa, March 18th, 2026 (CPA).- The task of developing a media cooperation roadmap between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the People’s Republic of China has been entrusted to participants at the first DRC–China Media Forum, by the Congolese Minister in charge of Communication and Media at the opening of the meeting Wednesday in Kinshasa.

“Beyond discussions and reflections, this forum must deliver concrete results. The work undertaken must lead to the development of a media cooperation roadmap between the DRC and China. This roadmap should sustainably structure exchanges between our media institutions, strengthen training programs, promote editorial co-productions, and encourage the circulation of balanced and responsible information,” said Patrick Muyaya. He added that the reflections carried out within this framework should also help identify opportunities offered by emerging technologies while strengthening mechanisms to safeguard the integrity of information, in a spirit of win-win partnership serving development and responsible journalism.

According to him, the forum also constitutes a platform for strategic reflection on the future of the media sector in the DRC, in line with its main theme on modernization and development pathways. “This theme reflects the willingness of our two countries to jointly explore new forms of cooperation within the broader dynamic of the Global South, bringing together nations from Africa, Asia and Latin America committed to strengthening coordination, sharing development experiences and amplifying their voices in the global information space,” he stated. “In this perspective, China’s experience stands as that of a major actor in the Global South, highlighting a modernization trajectory based notably on digital transformation and the development of media capacities,” he added. For Patrick Muyaya, the forum is fully aligned with a dynamic of media cooperation, offering an opportunity to strengthen institutional collaboration between media outlets, particularly the two national news agencies. “It also provides an opportunity to examine the digital transformations reshaping the production and dissemination of information, and to explore prospects offered by emerging technologies, notably artificial intelligence,” he concluded.ACP/
