Kinshasa, April 29th, 2026 (CPA). – A monitoring mission on working conditions in private schools was launched Thursday in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, CPA observed. “Just a few days before Labor Day, celebrated on May 1st, I have decided to officially launching inspections in private schools. This is in line with the vision of the Head of State, who is committed to ensuring that Congolese workers operate in better conditions,” said Ferdinand Massamba, Minister of Employment. Mr. Massamba recalled on this occasion that employment is the first pillar of the government’s action plan under Prime Minister Judith Suminwa. The mission visited several schools, including the Révérend Kim and Cardinal Malula school complexes, as well as Massamba School.
On the ground, the minister and his delegation observed the absence of certain regulatory requirements, employment contracts not validated by the labor inspectorate, and non-application of the guaranteed inter professional minimum wage (SMIG). In response, a team of labor inspectors was instructed to provide guidance and, where necessary, sanction serious violations in order to bring practices into compliance. “We also sensitized employers to comply with legal provisions,” said Minister Massamba. For his part, Delphin Kaswangi, headmaster of Massamba School, welcomed the visit. “The minister made observations and proposed solutions. We have taken ownership of the issue and will implement all these recommendations,” he stated.
