DRC: Launching of the climate justice hub in Kinshasa on February 24th

Kinshasa, February 12th, 2026 (CPA).– The launch of a collaboration centre for ‘Climate Justice in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)’ is scheduled for 24-25 February in Kinshasa, the country’s capital, according to an environmental magazine consulted by the CPA on Thursday. « The organization Congolese Alert for the Environment and Human Rights (ACEDH), with the support of the Global Human Rights Fund (FDHM), announces a historic meeting on 24 and 25 February 2026 at the Elaïs Centre in Kinshasa. The aim of this meeting is to officially launch the Collaboration Hub for Climate Justice in the DRC, » according to Environews’ account X. « This new body aims to bring together a diverse range of actors, NGOs, indigenous peoples, women, young people, journalists and academics to develop a shared diagnosis of the Congolese climate ecosystem. The approach is resolutely intersectional, recognizing that vulnerabilities related to gender, social class and indigenous identity must be at the heart of environmental governance, » the source explained. Placed under the high patronage of the Ministry in charge of the Environment, the Kinshasa meeting will include expert panels and thematic workshops, notably on energy alternatives and the integration of indigenous knowledge into ecological governance, added the source. A roadmap is expected to be adopted at the end of the proceedings, defining the role of ACEDH as the technical secretariat of the future hub. The promoters believe that this dynamic could be a key step in making the DRC not only a major player in the fight against climate change, but also a model of social and environmental justice. The initiative comes at a time when the DRC is strengthening its international position as a ‘solution country’ in the face of climate change, the same source also reported. Returning from a regional meeting in Brazzaville, Environment Minister Marie Nyange emphasised the need to protect the African carbon market and mobilize funding for the benefit of local communities.
