DRC: Lokua Kanza calls for unity among Congolese musicians to build the future

Kinshasa, April 20th, 2026 (CPA). – A call for unity and cohesion among Congolese artists has been issued by singer Lokua Kanza of the Democratic Republic of Congo, in a statement published on his social media pages and consulted by CPA on Monday, with a view to building a better future. “At my age now, I must become a source of support for all my younger colleagues, because Fally Ipupa, Gims and Ferre Gola are the same age as my children, and I must ensure that the conflicts tearing musicians apart come to an end,” he has declared. In his message, the artist has explained having taken on the moral responsibility to help end the tensions dividing the Congolese music scene, by advocating for dialogue and reconciliation between generations. “I speak well of Fally Ipupa, not because we work together, but because in the heart God has given me, I am impartial; I have sung with Koffi Olomide, and I have also answered Jean Goubald’s call, for when God gives you the breath of life, you must share it without division,” he has added. He has also emphasised on the values of humility and solidarity, reminding us of the fleeting nature of human existence and the importance of leaving a positive legacy in music. “We are all guests on this earth; we will not last forever, and pride is not important. That is why my ultimate dream is to see Ferre, Fally, Gims and the others sing together, to set a powerful example for future generations,” the artist has emphasised. Lokua Kanza has also praised Fally Ipupa’s artistic openness, believing that his ability to incorporate diverse talents and influences constitutes a musical intelligence that is beneficial to the influence of Congolese music. A songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist, Lokua Kanza is recognised on the international scene for his Afro-folk style blending acoustic sounds and diverse cultural influences. Singing in several languages, including French, English, Swahili and Lingala, he defends an artistic vision based on the universality of emotions. In his philosophy, every language possesses a particular vibration that enriches the musical message.
