Kinshasa, October 19th, 2026 (CPA) – An awareness towards unity within the music industry has been advocated by a singer-songwriter to put an end to the fruitless quarrels that are weakening music in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to a video consulted on Monday by the CPA. “I don’t like to talk down to people, but I don’t understand why we have to keep tearing each other apart. It’s in our best interests to unite. Together, we can strengthen our music and build a loyal following. Because the more of us there are and the more united we are, the more we succeed, ” Lokua Kanza has declared.
The artist has illustrated his point by citing the example of American artists and their charity single “We Are The World”, produced for a common cause. According to Lokua Kanza, these internal conflicts stifle creativity and tarnish the image of a genre of music that is, after all, meant to bring people together. The artist has finally called for these conflicts to be overcome in the name of our moral legacy. “We have all benefited from our careers and amassed fortunes. At some point, we must remember that we are all going to die. What is the point of fuelling these disputes, and what example will we leave behind?”, he has asked himself.
Turning to his current musical projects, the artist has spoken of his recent collaborations, notably “Fololo” featured on Gally Garvey’s new album “ADN” – a 22-track album bringing together several figures from the world of rumba – and the duet “Oh Congo” with Sian Pottok, a track dedicated to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Projects that, in his view, reflect the need to prioritise artistic dialogue over personal quarrels.
