Kinshasa, October 7th, 2026 (CPA).- Mastery of the entrepreneurial ecosystem was recommended on Wednesday in Kinshasa, the capital, to media professionals in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), to enable them to better contribute to the development of the entrepreneurship sector, during a seminar dubbed the “Voices Economic Freedom Media Seminar”. “There is therefore an observation to be made.
I will start with a rather bitter observation. When we talk about the role of the media in the private sector, we often talk about the economy, which is a science. Today, entrepreneurship has become a science.
And when we look at our country, in the media, television channels and radio stations, we have journalists and specialists in economics. (…) So, the prerequisite is that journalists must master the entrepreneurial ecosystem,” said Gabriel Lomengo, president of the Network of Professional Entrepreneurship Coaches of Congo (Recopec).“We have journalists who are specialists in economics, but our message is that we should also have journalists specializing in entrepreneurship and its ecosystem,” he added.
Mr. Lomengo noted that there were few journalists and specialists in entrepreneurship, whereas this field, according to him, is a science requiring specialized expertise.Specialized training recommended for journalists in entrepreneurshipFor his part, Jasbey-Kamil Zebgia, Secretary-General of the National Union of the Press of Congo (UNPC), recommended specialized training for journalists in the field of entrepreneurship.
“For journalists to be able to overcome barriers and operate more effectively in the entrepreneurship sector, I think specialized training in this field is necessary. The second aspect is access to data. (…) An economic journalist cannot work without answers or statistics,” he said.
“Thirdly, there needs to be closer ties between the media and the private sector because today, when the private sector is brought closer to a media outlet, I believe there will be collaboration,” he continued. Furthermore, Aristote Mugisho, Director-General of the Research for Development and Prosperity Institute (RDPI Think Tank), explained the role of the DRC media in promoting economic freedom and entrepreneurship.
“The media can give visibility to innovations and private initiatives and can bring decision-makers and entrepreneurs closer together, enabling them to understand the reality and discuss the principles that contribute to developing our society,” he stressed. “The media can help change perceptions, positively influence the debate on the conditions necessary for the development of the private sector and attract investors through the information they disseminate,” added the Director-General of RDPI Think Tank. The media seminar, dubbed the “Voices Economic Freedom Media Seminar”, was organized by RDPI Think Tank under the theme “The Media and the Development of the Private Sector in the DRC”, with the aim of strengthening the role of the media in the DRC in promoting economic freedom and entrepreneurship.
