DRC: Ministry in charge of Culture commends the Leopards’ textile creativity

Kinshasa, June 14^th, 2026 (CPA). – The Ministry in charge of Culture, Arts and Heritage on Saturday praised the fashion designers, stylists and tailors of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for their textile creativity, which showcases the national identity of the Congolese national football team, the Leopards, on the world football stage, according to a statement consulted by CPA on Sunday. « To be Congolese is also to embody a culture of style and memory. It means presenting oneself to the world with pride, displaying an elegance that is far from superficial and that expresses itself with quiet confidence, » the statement read.  The document stressed that « the Leopards’ first statement is not only a sporting one but also a visual one, as this tailoring reflects the vitality of the DRC’s cultural industries and the creativity of its fashion sector. » « As the Leopards arrive for the global tournament, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has already made its statement before the first ball is kicked, » the source noted. According to the statement, the Ministry in charge of Culture warmly applauds the dedication of those who brought the project to life by designing and producing the outfits and matching accessories, thereby bringing together Congolese talent around a common vision. The initiative to dress the national football team for the world stage, the statement emphasized, symbolizes the strength of an entire nation. « This collection also represents the emblem of our strength and pride. The black fabric, the clean tailoring, the leopard pattern and the matching travel bags create an instantly recognizable silhouette. Through these details, national identity becomes a language, » the source explained. It added: « It is a vision that asserts itself—a Republic that defines itself through its own narrative and radiates under the symbol of the coat of arms embodied by the leopard. » In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the leopard is the country’s supreme national emblem, symbolizing power, sovereignty and traditional authority. It occupies a central place in both State symbols and Congolese popular culture.
