Kinshasa, August 18th, 2025 (CPA).-The need to focus much more effort and action on certain types of tourism in order to boost this sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was promised by the new Minister of Tourism during the handover ceremony in Kinshasa (the country’s capital).
« The tourism sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo is not fulfilling its role as a real tool for economic growth in our country, because this sector is virtually untapped, and this is a major challenge that the Ministry of Tourism must address under my mandate. Addressing the challenges in this sector will obviously require me to focus my efforts and actions much more on certain types of tourism in order to boost this sector , » said Didier Mazenga Mukanzu, the incoming Minister of Tourism.
This involves boosting urban, seaside, sports, cultural, blue and ecotourism, also known as green tourism, he said. However, the incoming minister explained that the tourism sector, as we know, occupies a prominent place in the global economy, with thousands of people travelling each year. Tourism plays an essential role in a country’s economic growth, job creation and regional development.
It is therefore one of the sectors that generates revenue for the state, which, according to him, is one of the pillars of our country’s economy and should promote DRC’s many tourist resources. ‘I would like to take this opportunity to pay a well-deserved tribute to the President of the Republic, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, for his appointment to the Government as Minister of Tourism, and to express my sincere gratitude to Ms Judith Suminwa Tuluka, Prime Minister and Head of Government, for renewing her confidence in me,’ said the new minister. ‘I congratulate the outgoing Minister of Tourism, my dear brother Didier M’pambia Musanga, for the remarkable work you have done during your tenure at the head of this ministry,’ he has concluded.
