Kinshasa, November 1st, 2026 (CPA).- The bank deposits in the national currency have been multiplied by more than seven in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, rising from 735 to CDF 5617 between December 2018 and October 2026, according to a document from the Central Bank (BCC) consulted on Sunday. “From 795 to CDF 5,617 billion: the bank deposits in the national currency have been multiplied by more than seven between December 2018 and September 2026,” it is read in this report, published to mark International Savings Day. According to the source, this progress has continued and accelerated in recent times, driven by the strengthening of the Congolese franc that began in September 2025, followed by relative stability in its exchange rate at around 2,200 to CDF 2,300 to the US dollar. This development, the report has indicated, illustrates an encouraging trend: monetary stability fosters confidence, and this confidence is reflected in particular in the growth of bank deposits in Congolese francs. It confirms the importance of preserving the value of the national currency to encourage its use in transactions and the accumulation of savings, it is read. The source has revealed that this trend is taking place against a backdrop of strengthened financial governance, recently marked by DRC’s removal from the Financial Action Group (GAFI) grey list – a further step forward for the credibility of the Congolese financial system. On this International Savings Day, the Central Bank of Congo is encouraging households and businesses to strengthen their savings culture, by prioritising authorised financial institutions, and to give the Congolese franc an increasingly prominent role in their financial plans. “Saving in CDF means preparing for the future, placing trust in our currency and contributing to its appreciation,” the BCC’s report has concluded.
