Kinshasa, July 13th, 2025 (CPA) – The slam (sung poetry) entitled ‘La danse des mots’ (The Dance of Words), released on Sunday on all download platforms, focused on encouraging a culture of reading among young people in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to the author contacted by CPA.
« The situation is alarming: most young people no longer read. They prefer leisure and mobility, instead of going, for example, to a library where they can access a variety of resources such as books, periodicals, digital documents, and sometimes even multimedia spaces that are essential to culture (…). This is what has motivated me to release a title to inspire and encourage my peers to cultivate a culture of reading, » has declared Carmel Makaya, author of this slam. The author has explained that ‘the dance of words’ used in his work « refers in this regard to intellectual gymnastics to oxygenate the brain and improve intellectual abilities such as memory and concentration among young people.”
‘La danse des mots’ is the flagship title of my first collection of ten tracks, including: ‘La voirie publique,’ ‘Combat cage,’ and ‘Ezopela moto,’ the second part of which consists of ‘Pesa place oza chance’ and ‘Benga nga N’djilois.’ He has added that the track ‘La femme et son daddy’ will be available next year, much to the delight of music lovers eager for new discoveries. Artistically known by the pseudonym ‘Le Poecrate’, Carmel Makaya is a former journalist for a United Nations radio station in the Democratic Republic of Congo. CPA/
