DRC:  The interdisciplinary knowledge discussed for international recognition of genocides in DRC

Kinshasa, July 29th, 2025 (CPA).-  The interdisciplinary knowledge has been discussed for international recognition of genocides in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. ‘This symposium aims to mobilise interdisciplinary knowledge, document the facts and analyse the genocidal logic at work by questioning individual and state responsibilities towards international recognition of genocides in DRC,’ has declared Safi Sombo, Minister in charge of Higher and University Education. She has praised the courage of civil society in coining the neologism ‘Genocost,’ which has now been enshrined in national legislation through an age-old political and academic movement committed to giving names and dignity to the victims, before alerting the world collective conscience. For Minister Safi Sombo, this symposium has been a founding moment in this quest for truth and recognition, enabling dialogue between disciplines, territories and generations, and creating a fruitful synergy between the social sciences, the law, the history, the memory and the commitment of citizens. Furthermore, she has paid exceptional tribute to the work accomplished by the scientific committee and its technical secretariat, whose dedication has made this conference possible, before saluting the commitment of the academic experts, researchers and speakers who had travelled from afar and those who participated remotely for responding to the call of science, memory and justice.  For his part, Paul Nsapu, President of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), has praised the clear commitment shown by the Inter-institutional Commission for Victim Assistance and Reform Support (CIA-VAR) and the National Fund for Reparations for Conflict Victims (Fonarev), which place victims at the heart of policies, justice, memory and reparations. ‘A moment of truth, a moment when we face our history, however painful it may be,’ he said.  CPA/
