Kinshasa, February 2nd, 2026 (CPA)-. Three new projects have been included in the Infrastructure Unit’s program for the 2026 financial year, namely Transport and Connectivity Development Phase 2, the Urban Flood Resilience Project (PRIUR) and the Ngandajika Industrial Park Access Roads Project, according to the Infrastructure Unit Coordinator, during an interview with the CPA on Monday. « The Infrastructure Unit has been very active and has initiated three new projects for the 2026 program on behalf of the Ministry in charge of Infrastructure, namely Transport and Connectivity Development Phase 2, the Urban Flood Resilience Project (PRIUR) and the Ngandajika Industrial Park Access Roads Project, according to the Infrastructure Unit coordinator, » announced Billy Tshibambe, coordinator of the Infrastructure and Public Works Unit. He said that the first project, Transport and Connectivity Development, is a continuation of the Transport and Connectivity Support Project. It covers the 200 km Mbanga-Rivière Lualaba section of National Road No. 2 linking Mbuji-Mayi (Kasaï-Oriental) to Kindu (Maniema) via Kabinda in Lomami province. The cost of this project is estimated at USD 440 million. The second project, called the Urban Flood Resilience Project in the DRC (PRIUR), covers the cities of Kinshasa and Kalemie in Tanganyika province. Finally, the project to develop access roads to the Ngandajika agro-industrial park, the agricultural granary of the city of Mbuji-Mayi, covers 120 km. This project includes the extension of the runway at Mbuji-Mayi airport. The funding allocated for this project is estimated at 200 million.  Connectivity support project, 150 km of asphalt roads expected in 2026 As part of the work currently underway, approximately 150 km of paved roads are expected to be completed in 2026 as part of the Connectivity Support Project (PACT), according to Billy Tshibambe.  ‘The Infrastructure Unit remains focused on the results of various projects initiated with donors for the construction and rehabilitation of basic infrastructure in the Democratic Republic of Congo,’ said Billy Tshibambe, coordinator of the Infrastructure Unit. These results, he said, concern projects financed by the World Bank, namely Kin-Elenda for the completion of the activities included in the program, which are almost ready for inauguration. This involves the development of the Sainte Thérèse area in the commune of N’djili, including the asphalting of two avenues, the construction of the communal office and the stadium, and the construction of the vocational training center in Maluku. With regard to the African Development Bank, the project involves the asphalting of 50 km between Kananga-Kabeya Kamwanga on National Road 1 and the Bukavu-Goma road, work on which was suspended due to insecurity caused by the occupation of these areas by Rwanda and its M23 AFC auxiliaries, not to mention the access road to the rail link between the DRC and Congo Brazzaville.  The results expected during this 2026 financial year also concern projects financed by the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA). This donor’s account includes the 14-artery project with the continuation of technical studies, including the signing of works contracts in June and the launch in the second half of the year, as well as the rehabilitation of university clinics.

The outlook in this context concerns the resumption of road works, namely the five-artery project in Kinshasa, following the mobilization of the government’s counterpart funds. The Unit has included work on Bianda and Kisenso avenues, which has been suspended since 2022.  Furthermore, the coordinator said that the 2025 financial year was characterized by the continuation of ongoing works and the consolidation of the Infrastructure Unit’s portfolio.
