DRC: Two institutions commit to strengthen the judicial sanctions to combat corruption

Kinshasa, March 11th, 2026 (CPA).- The Ministry in charge of Justice and the General Inspection of Finance (IGF) have committed to strengthen judicial sanctions to tackle corruption in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), during discussions between officials from both institutions, according to a note consulted on Wednesday by CPA.

« The work of the General Inspection of Finance (IGF) must no longer be limited to simply producing reports, but must lead to judicial sanctions. If we work and there are no exemplary sanctions, the control risks becoming trivialized. It is crucial that the fear of embezzling public funds takes hold in the country, » has declared Christophe Bitasimwa, general inspector and head of department at the IGF, following this meeting with Guillaume Ngefa, Minister in charge of Justice, as quoted in the document.

According to the same source, he has continued in these terms: ‘the discussions have also focused on several legislative and structural projects aiming the clean-up of public finances, notably the establishment of a public prosecutor’s office near the financial courts, the drafting of new anti-corruption laws and the strengthening of the protection of public assets’. With this in mind, the IGF and the Ministry in charge of Justice are planning to establish a permanent framework for collaboration in order to speed up the prosecutions related to the misappropriation of public funds, it was also learned.
