DRC: US$ 214 million needed for food and aid for victims in the east

Kinshasa, October 28th, 2026 (CPA) – Two hundred and fourteen (214) million USD needs to be raised to finance the emergency response in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) over the next six months, including vital food aid, according to a statement from the World Food Programme (WFP), consulted on Wednesday by CPA.

“As the Ebola outbreak spreads to an eighth province, affected families are struggling more and more to obtain food whilst complying with treatment and isolation measures. This funding will also help to maintain essential logistics and telecommunications services, UNHAS air operations as well as the construction of Ebola treatment centres,” It is read.

“Of this amount, US$78.6 million is necessary to provide hot meals and dry food rations to those directly affected by Ebola and their families,” the source continues.

“This will include the logistical operations and humanitarian air services provided by UNHAS,” the source has specified. According to the source, without rapid and flexible funding, food aid, the transport of humanitarian workers and supplies, as well as support for treatment facilities, are at risk of being disrupted.

Maintaining these operations is essential to support affected families and help health partners to contain the epidemic, the statement has added.

Furthermore, the source has indicated that the spreading of Ebola increases pressure on treatment capacity and heightens the need for transport, supplies and medical infrastructure.

The Insecurity, poor road conditions and limited local capacity are slowing down humanitarian access and deliveries, unfavourable weather conditions have also disrupted UNHAS operations, particularly around Mahagi, Bunia and Isiro, the source has concluded. ACP/
