Isiro, October 13th, 2026 (CPA).- New methods aimed at reducing the mortality rate in the response to the Ebola virus disease were introduced on Tuesday in Haut-Uele province, northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), during a meeting to plan activities for the provincial epidemic response coordination team.
“In view of the reports we are receiving, the laboratory team is expected to conduct additional tests beyond those related to Ebola, particularly for diabetes, blood pressure and HIV/AIDS, in order to reduce mortality at the Ebola Treatment Centre (ETC),” said Dr. José Lolekoleko, response operations officer at the provincial coordination office of the Haut-Uele Provincial Health Division (DPS).
“We must therefore establish intensive care services, set up a blood bank and address other emergency needs. We have all the necessary equipment at IsiroGeneral Referral Hospital and in the health zone,” he added after the planning meeting. During the meeting, the head of the surveillance team pointed out that most of the recorded deaths resulted from complications associated with comorbidities.
The meeting moderator also issued recommendations for the immediate implementation of these new measures. The provincial response coordinator for the World Health Organization (WHO) and officials responsible for all pillars of the response were present.
