Bunia, June 24th, 2026 (CPA).— A self-taught student and candidate for the 2026 State Examination, who recovered from Ebola after taking part of her examinations at the Ebola Treatment Center (ETC) located within the Evangelical Medical Center (CME) in Bunia, Ituri Province, in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, has rejoined the regular examination hall, according to a video produced by the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) and received Wednesday by CPA. “My name is Julienne Kahindo, a self-taught student and candidate for the 2025–2026 State Examination. I was supposed to sit the examinations in Boga, more than 100 kilometers from Bunia, but Ebola Virus Disease prevented me from returning to my home area. The educational authorities took steps to enable me to take the State Examination here at the Ebola Treatment Center. My examination papers are well protected,” she testified in Swahili. She explained that she was admitted to the center after accompanying her sick grandmother to the CME, unaware that the latter was infected with the Ebola virus. “I was caring for my grandmother at the CME hospital without knowing that she was an Ebola-positive case. By the grace of God, I am now able to sit the State Examination,” she said. Miss Kahindo also testified to the improvement in her health condition following her admission to the treatment center.
“I arrived here in a critical condition, suffering from diarrhea, vomiting, severe weakness and other symptoms. Today, I have regained my strength,” she stated before praising the quality of care provided. “We are well fed here at the Ebola Treatment Center, where everything is properly organized. We lack nothing,” she concluded.
