Football in Ituri: Gambela crowned champions of the Rural Entente

Bunia, April 21st, 2025 (CPA) – Jeunesse Electronic (J.E) Gambela have been crowned 2024-2025 champions of the Ituri Rural Football Entente (ERUFITURI), after beating TS Bisengo 1-0 in the final at the Kindia stadium in Bunia, the main city of Ituri province in the north-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). After a 0-0 draw in the first half, JE Gambela’s only goal came after the break when Maki Ngule (77′) hammered home Mbape Ali’s brilliant pass.

The Gambela team has managed to hold on to their lead until the final whistle. The victory enabled JE Gambela to write their name in the annals of Ivorian football and add their 6th title to their already prestigious list of honours, following those of 2005, 2007, 2015, 2018 and 2022. The two ERUFITURI finalists will represent the province of Ituri in the League of the Former Eastern Province (LIFPO) championship, which kicks off in Bunia on Monday, barring any last-minute changes.

In recognition of his performance, Gambela was awarded four footballs, as many as the unfortunate runner-up, donated by a local sports company specialising in the sale of sports equipment for the development of football and the support of local talent.
