Kinshasa, April 21st, 2025 (CPA) – A call for applications for a literary and artistic competition entitled “Lumumba is 100 years old”, aimed at honouring Patrice Emery Lumumba, former prime minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been launched in Kinshasa, from April 15th to May 15th, the ACP has learnt ACP has learnt on Saturday, from an administrative source.
In partnership with the Lumumba Foundation, “this competition invites young people to express their creativity by writing a poem, producing a comic strip or a caricature celebrating Patrice Emery Lumumba, an emblematic figure in the history of the DRC and Africa”, has declared Gina Indiang, general director of the ‘“Elembo’” publishing house. « We hope to reconnect young people with the history of the Congo and give them the opportunity to explore the legacy left by this national hero through art and literature. The aim of this project is to awaken emerging talent and promote writing practices among young people », she has added, before encouraging young people aged between 12 and 25 to develop their artistic and literary talents through this opportunity. ‘The works submitted will be assessed on criteria such as quality and compliance with the competition rules’, she has precised.
to her, the winners will have the opportunity to have their works published in a special collection entitled ‘Lumumba at 100’, published by Elembo. In addition to this publication, ‘the winners will receive a cash prize of one million Congolese francs (Fc 1,000,000), as well as a surprise kit offered by “’Elembo” Editions’, she has pointed out. Founded in 2024, the mission of ‘Elembo” Editions”’ is to give young people a taste for and pleasure in literature. It aims to reveal and promote emerging talent.
