Haut-Katanga: demolition of an illegal construction obstructing two avenues in Lubumbashi

Lubumbashi, August 7th, 2025 (CPA). Two boundary walls obstructing two avenues in the Kyabula neighbourhood, Tshamalale housing estate, in the Annexe municipality, in Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga (South-East Democratic Republic of Congo), have been demolished on Thursday by the urban demolition brigade in the presence of the interim mayor of Lubumbashi, CPA has reported.  ‘Built illegally on a subdivided plot, the owner of the building, who has been repeatedly warned, continues to turn a deaf ear and has just undergone a second demolition,’ has said Mutumbo Masonj, head of the demolition brigade. The interim mayor of Lubumbashi, Patrick Kafwimbi, has visited Kilobelobe Avenue in the municipality of Kampemba to supervise the sanitation and waste removal work carried out by an NGO called Étoile du Salut (Stars of salvation). The mayor of Lubumbashi has given instructions and guidance on how to carry out the work, before continuing his inspection of the sanitation work in various main streets in the town centre of Lubumbashi, where the various sanitation teams have been deployed.
