Tshikapa, January 26th, 2026 (CPA).- The gender-based violence (GBV) has been the focus of a round table discussion held on Monday in Tshikapa, main town of the province of Kasai, in the centre of the Democratic Republic of Congo, for political, administrative and traditional authorities. ‘During this awareness-raising session, the causes, the consequences and the mechanisms for protection against gender-based violence (GBV) have been at the centre of our discussions. A particular emphasis has been placed on the challenge of enforcing laws and regulations protecting women and girls,’ has declared Hubert Kandima, project manager at the NGO Christian Aid. This activity has enabled the organisers to remind participants of the roles and responsibilities of political, administrative and traditional authorities in combating GBV and protecting human rights. On this occasion, Mr Kandima has invited the participants to break the silence and directly denounce all forms of sexual and gender-based violence, whether physical, psychological, social or economic. The gender-based violence is a major problem in the Democratic Republic of Congo in general, and in the province of Kasai in particular. Women and girls are the main victims. The impunity of perpetrators and the lack of specialised services for survivors remain significant challenges.
