Kinshasa: a rape case involving a pastor and a minor adjourned until June 15th

Kinshasa, June 1st, 2026 (CPA).- The hearing of the case of the rape of a minor pitting the prosecution against a pastor has been adjourned until June 15th by the High Court of Kinshasa-Gombe, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), on the grounds of the defendant’s ill health, during a hearing held on Monday. “The defendant is unwell. We request an adjournment of the case and, to that end, are producing a medical certificate justifying his absence from this hearing,” has pleaded the pastor’s lawyer, Mongoho Salem. The complainant’s side, Keren Kanku, aged 16 years, has been represented by Kayembe Muza and Nicolas Pipole, her advisory lawyers. After examining the application and the documents in the case file, the court has granted the requested adjournment. “The court adjourns the case until June 15th at 9 am for the continuation of the investigation,” has indicated the presiding judge. Charged with the rape of a minor, the pastor Mongoho Salem is required to appear in person at the next hearing.
