Kinshasa, June 24th, 2025 (CPA)- The setting up of a structure to analyze the procedures for organizing elections for mayors, urban councilors and town mayors was announced on Tuesday in a statement by the National Collective of municipalities Councilors in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. ‘The National Collective of Communal Councilors informs national and international opinion of the setting up today of an Electoral Task Force, a structure charged with analyzing in depth the modalities for organizing the elections of burgomasters, urban councilors and town mayors. The aim of this initiative is to put into practice the Head of State’s vision of sustainable development from the bottom up’, said Willy Nzembela, coordinator of the collective. ‘The National Collective of Communal Councillors warmly welcomes the determination and political commitment of the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, in favor of effective decentralisation in our country, as reflected in the official referral of the matter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by the Government, in a letter from the Deputy Prime Minister of the Interior, to whom we offer our warmest congratulations’, he added. He also announced that the communal councilors were planning to launch a national reunification campaign to strengthen cohesion, peace and development throughout the country. ‘The National Collective of Communal Councilors will not remain indifferent in the face of Rwandan aggression on national territory. It strongly urges the international community and African regional organizations to support the diplomatic initiatives undertaken by the President of the Republic with a view to restoring peace in the east of the DRC’, he said. He concluded: ‘The Collective launches an urgent appeal to all armed groups and rebel movements illegally occupying parts of the national territory, particularly in the East, to withdraw immediately, in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council’.
