Kinshasa: Fally Ipupa suspends his artistic director for indiscipline

Kinshasa, October 21st, 2026 (CPA) – Serge Liaki, artistic director of the ‘F’Victim’ orchestra led by singer Fally Ipupa of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), has been suspended from his post for indiscipline, the band’s marketing and media department announced in a statement received on Wednesday by CPA.

“This decision follows recent public statements made by the individual in question concerning two musicians and a music columnist, in connection with a case currently pending before the competent judicial authorities,” it is read. According to the source, the role of artistic director does not authorise the holder to publicly engage the group on matters outside the scope of their professional remit, particularly where these concern on-going legal proceedings, without prior authorisation or mandate. “The remarks made by Mr Serge Liaki, outside any officially authorised framework for communication, constitute a breach of the rules of discipline, discretion and responsibility to which members of our organisation are bound,” the statement reports.

The management has also referred to a history of disciplinary issues concerning Serge Liaki relating to similar behaviour. During his suspension, he is no longer authorised to represent the group, commit it to anything or speak on its behalf in any form whatsoever. Furthermore, the group has reaffirmed its commitment to respect for judicial institutions, the presumption of innocence and the principles of professionalism, discipline and responsibility governing its operations. The statement has finally clarified that any official communication on behalf of the group is the sole responsibility of its marketing director, its press officer or the artist’s manager, each within the limits of their respective attributes.
