Kinshasa–Matadi railway: The population made aware about risks of accidents in Kisantu

Kisantu, October 21st, 2026 (CPA): –The population living along the Kinshasa-Matadi railway line has been made aware of the risks of accidents during a campaign organised in the town of Kisantu, in Kongo Central province, in the south-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo, CPA has learnt on Wednesday from an administrative source.

“This activity aimed to inform the public about the dangers associated with being near the tracks and to urge them to follow safety instructions, particularly during the passage of trains,” Jules Mukeba, section head of the National Transport Office (ONATRA) in Kisantu has declared. “This is a recommendation from authorities aiming to protect railway users and the surrounding population,” he has added, calling on residents to avoid crossing the railway tracks at unsafe locations, not to occupy the railway right-of-way and not to engage in activities likely to disrupt train services.

Mr Mukeba has also invited residents to refrain from building houses or installing stalls close to the railway tracks, due to the risk of accidents and the disruption that such activities may cause. He has also urged parents to make their children aware of the dangers associated with playing, gathering in groups and walking on the railway tracks. “Adherence to these measures will help reduce the risk of accidents, protect railway infrastructure and promote better coexistence between the railway and the local community,” he has concluded.
