Kinshasa: Publishers called upon to be authentic and responsive to current events

Kinshasa, November 12th,  2025 (CPA), – A call for authenticity and reactivity in response to the news was launched on Tuesday during a workshop on communication and editorial marketing, organized in Gombe, north of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, on the occasion of the 11th edition of the Book Festival. “Regarding the recommendations made, the first is really to be consistent, which is the basis of the basics. It is also important to know your target audience well (…). You also need to capitalize on in-person events to give visibility to as many people as possible, and then redirect that audience to social media. And the last thing, which is essential for me, is to be authentic, but also to respond to current events,” said Mélissa Diantete, workshop facilitator. According to her, the main objective of this workshop was to offer concrete ideas to enable publishers and communicators to build a solid and consistent digital identity. ‘We talked a lot about writing content for social media, but also about the importance of building bridges between what happens outside of social media. Physical meetings, conferences and literary events remain essential for building a real community,’ she explained, emphasizing that physical meetings, conferences and literary events remain essential for building a loyal community.

Synergy with book influencers discussed

Mélissa Diantete also invited participants to ‘get to know your target audience well’ and to ‘capitalize on in-person events to give visibility to as many people as possible, then redirect that audience to social media.’ ‘We talked about what are known as booktalkers, bookstagrammers, people who are influential on Instagram, and so the main strategy is to identify which social networks are the most promising, but also how to reach as many of the people we want to target as possible,’ noted Mélissa Diantete. ‘If your community is very active on WhatsApp, there’s no point in trying to develop a Facebook account where they aren’t present,’ she explained, adding that the strategy should focus on identifying the most relevant platforms for their target audience. Finally, she reminded the audience that consistency and authenticity remain the keys to successful communication. ‘You have to be able to respond to current events and trends, while remaining true to your intention and message,’ she concluded, urging publishers to persevere in order to capture the interest of an increasingly distracted audience. Focusing on promoting literature in all its forms, the 11th edition of the Book Festival is taking place from November 8th to 15th in Kinshasa and several other cities in the DRC.
