Kinshasa, October 15th, 2026 (CPA).- Construction work on the Lukaya Bridge on the south-east and south-west ring roads in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has progressed with the installation of the girders, according to one of the project managers contacted by the CPA on Thursday.
“The installation of the beams marks an important milestone in the progress of work on the Lukaya Bridge,” has emphasised Yu Rongjin, an engineer with the company CREC-8.
Measuring 180 metres in length and 17 metres in width, the bridge comprises six spans, seven beam panels and one-metre-wide footpaths on either side.
According to Mr Rongjin, the installation of the first prefabricated T-beam, 30 metres long, on August 8th, 2026, marked the start of construction of the bridge’s superstructure. With the beams now in place, the project has entered the finishing phase.
“The overall progress of the works exceeds 50 per cent,” has indicated the source responsible for monitoring the project, highlighting the progress being made on the various infrastructure elements under construction.
For residents of the affected areas, the completion of these bypasses is expected to improve urban mobility, facilitate travel and help combat erosion, which is a particular cause for concern in certain neighbourhoods of Kinshasa.
