Kinshasa, June 11th, 2025 (CPA).-The sanitation programme for Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been estimated at over USD 45 million by the urban authority at the governors’ conference in Lualaba, a province in the south-east of the country, according to a statement released on Wednesday. ‘The sanitation programme for the city of Kinshasa is evaluated at more than USD 45 million. A State support is strongly hoped for in order to implement this programme. The governor Daniel Bumba is calling on the central government to complete the projects currently underway,’ it is read in the statement from Kinshasa City Hall. ‘The head of the provincial executive welcomed the fact that, for the first time, the city has developed a global sanitation plan,  whose major stages will be the recovery of the Mpasa landfill site, where 8 million tonnes of waste will have to be removed,’  has added the source. According to the document, the governor of the city of Kinshasa has presented an assessment of his ambitious programme called ‘Kinshasa Ezo Bonga’ on the first day of the 12th conference of governors held in Kolwezi, the capital of Lualaba province. The urban executive’s programme, according to the town hall, is estimated at US$10.5 billion and is based on the three initiatives and six commitments of President Felix Tshisekedi five-year programme. The meeting also provided an opportunity for Governor Bumba to take stock of the actions carried out in the areas of sanitation, roads, transport and health. ‘In this package and with regard to infrastructure in particular, at least 60 kilometres of the 170 kilometres planned have been completed in order to significantly reduce traffic congestion in Kinshasa. He has reassessed his ambitions with the aim of reaching 250 kilometres with the support of the central government,’ has concluded the source.
