Kinshasa, April 24th; 2025 (CPA) – Three houses were destroyed by fire on Tuesday night in the Lubudi-Luka district of Kintambo, a commune in the center of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to an administrative source. ‘Three houses caught fire on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, we regret because the origin of this fire is not known and we recorded significant material damage despite the intervention of neighbours, nothing was recovered all three houses were destroyed and reduced to ashes,’ said Érick Ndombasi, head of the Lubudi-Luka district. He pointed out that his constituents had always been made aware by the commune’s services of the use of inflammable products and fraudulent electrical connections, but the cases of fire reported were only increasing. ‘We’ve always urged our constituents not to use flammable products or candles, and to be aware of the deadly risks of fraudulent electrical connections, but every month we record more cases of fire. Fortunately, no lives have been lost so far. Each time, the fire has been brought under control in time. But this time three homes were burnt to the ground’, added Mr. Ndombasi. ‘We are asking people of goodwill and our municipal authorities for help. We’ve lost everything and spent the night under the stars with no blankets, mosquito nets or money. We’ve all lost everything, even our valuables,’ said Bernadette Mahunda, one of the victims. According to a witness to the event, there were similar cases last year in this region, which is often plagued by power cuts and shortages of drinking water, which prevented emergency services from putting out the fire. On the night of April 14, at around 11pm, an entire plot of land in the neighbouring Nganda-Jamaïque district of Kintambo, on Avenue Hirondelles, burnt to the ground, with several houses inside. ACP/
