Kinshasa: Two districts in Mont-Ngafula have been without drinking water for more than three years (A notable figure)

Kinshasa, July 13th,  2025 (CPA).- The Musangu and Sans fil districts in Mont-Ngafula, a municipality in the west of the city of Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), have been deprived of drinking water for more than three (3) years, local sources have reported on Saturday.

‘We are sounding the alarm so that the drinking water distribution company (Regideso) resumes the drinking water supply, which has been interrupted for more than three years, even though everyone is aware of the vital importance of this commodity in our households,’ has said Simon Kintenda, a prominent figure in Mont-Ngafula and retired honorary director of the Congolese National Radio and Television (RTNC).  ‘For more than three years, the residents of these two districts have been served by individuals who have drilled wells, with each can costing 250 Congolese francs,’ he has explained. However, he has continued, according to the information in our possession, the Regideso factory in Lukaya, located in Kimwenza, which supplied us a few years ago, produces more than 36,000 cubic metres of water per day.

According to him, this is more than enough to meet the needs of the population and thus avoid the inconvenience caused by these two administrative entities, which has gone on for too long. ‘We remain hopeful that the completion of the World Bank-funded Kinshasa Urban Resilience Multisectoral Development Project, which involves laying pipes to take water from the large Ozone/Ngaliema factory in order to increase and strengthen Regideso’s capacity to provide maximum drinking water service to its subscribers, will be completed,’ he has said.
