Kinshasa, September 29th, 2025 (CPA).- Young people in Kinshasa, the main city of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), were called upon on Monday during a discussion with an business man to adopt an entrepreneurial spirit as a means of combating poverty and promoting local development.
‘I call on the young people of Kinshasa to adopt an entrepreneurial spirit as a means of combating poverty and promoting local development,’ has said Augustin Tombo, a business man.
According to him, DRC faces major economic challenges, including high youth unemployment and endemic poverty, hence the need for young people to develop an entrepreneurial spirit.
‘The idea is to turn difficulties into opportunities by encouraging young people to start their own businesses,’ he added. He noted that access to financing remains a major obstacle for many young entrepreneurs. Financial institutions need to rethink their lending criteria to include young innovators who do not always have solid guarantees. ‘Entrepreneurship is an essential path out of poverty. It’s not just about making money, but also about contributing to the development of our community,’ said Augustin Tombo. He also suggested that the Congolese government should set up training programmes and workshops to help young people acquire essential skills in business management, marketing and finance. ‘These efforts aim to create an ecosystem conducive to entrepreneurship, where young people can not only learn, but also receive support in launching their projects,’ concluded Augustin Tombo. Entrepreneurship in Kinshasa represents a glimmer of hope in the fight against poverty. By joining forces, young people can transform their reality and contribute to a better future for their community.
