Kongo Central: Provincial Human Rights Division Receives New Offices

Kinshasa, June 2nd, 2026 (CPA).– The Provincial Human Rights Division of Kongo Central, located in Matadi in the south-western part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), was provided with new office facilities on Monday by the national Minister of Human Rights, according to a note consulted by CPA on Tuesday.

“Samuel Mbemba has provided the Kongo Central Provincial Division with new offices and is strengthening the capacities of public officials and staff in human rights and international humanitarian law,” the note from one of the ministry’s services stated. Addressing political and military authorities of Kongo Central, Me Samuel Mbemba recalled the instructions received from the President of the Republic to make Provincial Human Rights Divisions fully operational, as a guarantee of a genuine rule-of-law State, the source added.

According to the same source, the minister is continuing the process of equipping provincial divisions under his sector with new administrative buildings. Through this initiative, Mr. Mbemba is implementing the Government’s policy of revitalizing Provincial Human Rights Divisions throughout the country. The source stressed that the programme is of strategic importance to Félix Tshisekedi, who places the promotion and protection of Congolese citizens’ human rights among his key priorities.

Prior to the inauguration of the provincial division, the Minister of Human Rights launched a capacity-building seminar for public officials and staff, including members of the defense and security forces, focusing on human rights and international humanitarian law. He expressed the expectation that participants would gain a better understanding of the fundamental principles of human rights and international law, while improving the prevention and handling of human rights violations.
