Kinshasa, May 25th, 2026 (CPA).- The population of the city of Kikwit, in Kwilu province in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was sensitised to the dangers of breast cancer and the importance of early treatment during a campaign organized from Thursday to Sunday, CPA learned Monday from the organizers.
“We sensitized the population of the city of Kikwit in Kwilu province to the dangers of breast cancer and the importance of early management. This was part of a campaign organized from Thursday to Sunday by the non-profit organization Club of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Other Initiatives (CGO.ai),” declared Dr Ally Mashala Bangambe, president and founder of acting CGO. “The activities were notably held at the Saint François Xavier School Complex, Bidasoa High School, Kagwa High School, Kwilu 2 Educational Province, Kikwit Central Market, Kazamba Market, Kikwit 3 Subdivision, as well as the University of Kikwit. Through educational exchange sessions, prevention advice and messages focused on early screening, several women, young people and staff members were sensitized,” he added.
Dr Mashala indicated that the mission produced encouraging results, with the identification of six women presenting suspected cases requiring further medical follow-up. Thanks to the National Cancer Control Centre (CNLC-RDC), in collaboration with the Nganda Centre and the Swiss firm Roche, these women were encouraged to travel to Kinshasa in order to benefit from free medical care, with the support of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program advocated by Head of State Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo. The president and founder of CGO.ai expressed satisfaction with the results achieved during this important mission, stressing that the fight against breast cancer must not be limited to the Pink October campaign. “Breast cancer is a reality, but not a fatality. Let us raise awareness together to save lives and preserve the human capital of Congolese women,” he said. Through this campaign, CGO.ai reaffirmed its commitment to promoting community health and combating female cancers in the DRC. Based in Kinshasa, CGO.ai is a professional structure aimed at improving standards of practice in gynaecology and obstetrics and training health professionals.
