Bandundu, July 14th, 2025 (CPA).– The provincial government of Kwilu, in the southwest of the Democratic Republic of Congo, pledged its support for journalist training on Monday in Bandundu, during an audience granted by the governor to the delegation of the National Press Union of Congo (UNPC) from this province. « I assure you of the provincial government’s support for journalist training, ahead of the 13th Governors’ Conference, to strengthen their knowledge for effective media coverage, as the success of these meetings will depend on the support of the local press, » declared Dr. Philippe Akamituna, acting governor of Kwilu. He also promised to take into account the wishes of the UNPC and the provincial government’s support for the union’s actions. According to the acting sectional president of the UNPC/Kwilu, Célestin Kwekwa, « We have come first to extend our regards, then to congratulate you on your brilliant election, and finally to talk to you about the UNPC, which is a union, a corporation whose mission is to ensure the self-regulation of the journalism profession. It therefore requires the support of the provincial government to provide better guidance and boost the promotion of provincial institutions. » We are taking this opportunity to request support for capacity building for journalists and media professionals in preparation for the 13th Conference of Provincial Governors, scheduled for December 2025, with a view to ensuring professional media coverage. » The UNPC delegation was led by Célestin Kwekwa, accompanied by Viviane Sakata and Gaëtan Mbemba, acting section president, treasurer, and president of the disciplinary committee, respectively.
