Lusambo: four defendants prosecuted for illegal possession of weapons of war

Lusambo, November 17th, 2025 (CPA) – Four defendants are being prosecuted on Monday for illegal possession of weapons of war before the military garrison court in Lusambo, the capital of Sankuru province in the center of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), during the circuit court hearings.

‘Four (4) defendants are being prosecuted today for the following offences: illegal possession of weapons of war, stellionat, illegal detention of a defendant, forgery, criminal association, homicide and terrorism, as well as the rape of a minor,’ said Major Magistrate Lazare Amissi, presiding judge. The first hearing was devoted to the identification of the defendants, and the following days will be dedicated to the actual investigation of the cases.

‘These mobile court hearings play a fully educational role, that of mobilizing local populations around the legal consequences of certain offences by promoting a culture of strict respect for the law,’ he added. He added that this series of hearings is part of a twofold objective: to deliver justice effectively and to build trust between the defense forces, the military justice system and the civilian population in a territory facing various security challenges. Major Magistrate Amissi also indicated that we have an effective judicial system in place to administer justice in this part of the country. This includes the sovereign mission of prosecuting any military or police personnel who are found guilty. CPA/
