Kindu, May 20th, 2026 (CPA).- The human rights activists in Maniema province, in the centre-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, have been invited on Wednesday to get involved in the fight against the institutional crisis, to ensure the stability of institutions and respect for democratic principles, CPA has learnt from an NGO source. “Dear human rights defenders, I invite you to play your full part in raising public awareness, sensitising people and advocating, with a view to prevent the tensions observed between the Provincial Assembly and the provincial government of Maniema,” has declared Raphael Opelele Lokenga, executive secretary of the NGO Haki za Binadamu/Maniema. And he continued: “We call on human rights activists in our province to become more involved in the fight against the institutional crisis in order to promote the stability of institutions and respect for democratic principles in Maniema.” On this occasion, he has invited them to conduct interviews and awareness-raising activities likely to encourage provincial elected representatives and the provincial authority to promote dialogue, political tolerance, and respect for the Constitution and legal texts for the consolidation of social peace in the province. Mr Opelele has exhorted his colleagues to step up monitoring of human rights violations, whilst encouraging provincial councillors and the provincial governor to prioritise peaceful solutions to institutional disputes. Finally, he has called on the leaders of provincial institutions to prevent any abuses that might affect the smooth running of the province, emphasising that Maniema needs stability to ensure its development.ACP/
