The lateral safety distance of 1 metre in built-up areas and 1.5 metres outside built-up areas must be respected. The same distance is also required for pedestrians walking in the opposite direction.’ ‘We have also provided rules for different types of crossing. We have what is known as a normal crossing, which is the same crossing by definition where two vehicles meet in opposite directions. The second type is a difficult crossing, which refers to the narrowness of the road,’ he has continued.  Emphasising on the third type, the police officer has explained that: ‘this is the impossible crossing, which is generally where all the vehicles have already committed to the crossing but then realise that there is no way to complete it because the road is narrow and, above all, if either vehicle could overtake, there would be an accident’. And to conclude: ‘The last type of crossing, we have the crossing in intersections, which are generally the +, as in Y, crossroads. There, you have to respect the roundabout and the signs that would be found in the crossroads’.
