Kenge, June 24th, 2025 (CPA) – Motorcycles were handed over on Tuesday to the various partners in the AVENIR project for empowerment through nutrition-sensitive, inclusive and resilient agricultural and rural entrepreneurship, in Kenge, the capital of Kwango province in the south-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). ‘It is a great honor for me to stand before you today for the official handover of Yamaha DT 125 motorbikes to the various implementing partners of the AVENIR project in Kwango. This handover marks a real turning point in the implementation of field activities by various partners, whose ‘faire-faire’ approach means that certain partners can carry out activities to achieve the objectives assigned as part of the AVENIR project partnership’, said Rémy Saki, vice-governor of Kwango province. He added: ‘This mobility support is an essential step towards strengthening agricultural activities aimed at promoting family farming and agricultural entrepreneurship in the Katoy 316 PDE and the production basins that feed it. I encourage you all to manage these field tools more effectively, as they will make it easier for the partners involved in this project to deploy on the ground and carry out activities to support agricultural producers’. Vice-Governor Rémy Saki, speaking on behalf of the Government of the Republic through Kwango Province, thanked the financial partners IFAD and AFD, as well as the AVENIR project management unit, for these types of motorbikes, which will surely help the partners and their staff to be more mobile.
The provincial Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Josée Lulengwa Kibangu, insisted on the proper use of these Yamaha DT 125 motorbikes in order to see Kwango province develop in the agricultural sector. She warned against the misuse of this mobility equipment, which could prevent the project’s objectives from being achieved in Kwango. Earlier, Aimé Kazika, head of the provincial office of the ‘Avenir’ project, presented the project’s six implementing partners, who had received 15 of the 17 motorbikes, two of which would be used by the project’s management unit. At the symbolic handover, the beneficiaries were represented by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kwango Provincial Federation of Agricultural Producers (FEPPAKWA), Hilaire Katakanga Batumene, who urged them to use the motorbikes wisely and responsibly, and to work hand in hand with the producers. ‘Together, with the support of the AVENIR project management unit, the AVENIR Kwango project branch and the provincial government, let’s build a better future for our farmers and our community’, he recommended.
